Working on FS2020

The first patch of FS2020 has been pushed to users today by FS2020 team. This update fixed the frame drop problem when 3rd party programs communicate with FS2020 via SimConnect library. With this fix our bridge program runs normally with FS2020 and we can finally get some reliable results from our tests with FS2020. While we can do less about the missing variables in FS2020 we will definitely go for the autopilot stability problem. Currently the autopilot algorithm in the PFD program doesn’t control the planes in FS2020 well, leading the planes to keep banking violently to both side while trying to maintain a certain bank/heading. We are working on this problem and will get it work ASAP.

Thanks for the great update! By disabling synchronize master ap and send fsx operations i get a lot less wobbling and its been working pretty good. I am experiencing an ATC bug when using the sim ATC commands. After changing and activating a frequency the menu system in the sim ATC populates correctly. However, once you select an atc command the ATC reply doesn’t wait for my voice to stop and steps all over causing this weird infinite loop. If you switch radios you can stop it. I have another less fully featured app that does not have this problem, but again, its got nowhere near the functionality as simionic. Thanks for the dev work!

I am also experiencing the stuttering/endless loop ATC when the Simionic G1000Bridge.exe is running (including the updated version 3 and the most up to date FS2020). As soon as I close G1000Bridge ATC works properly. Note that I have experienced this issue since the MSFS2020 Alpha. It is almost as if Frequency is being continuously changed and ATC starts over. Possibly you are continuously setting the frequency and MSFS2020 is not bright enough to know the frequency has not changed? If that is the case, could you add logic to only set the frequency when it changes?

You have to turn off the co pilot tuning the coms for you, it helps. I have another Problem with frequencies that cannot be set il for ex. LFST tower in france which is 121.805. The simionic g1000 goes from .000 to .015. How can i achieve this if i turn the copilot off and manualy enter the frequency ?

This happens to me as well. What I noticed is happening is I can’t set COM frequencies using the PFD app that aren’t 25khz. For example 121.955. I can only tune 121.950 or 121.975. If I set the right frequency in game to 121.955 it quickly changes back by the PFD app to 121.950. This seems to trigger the ATC to loop and behave erratically.

Thanks for the update and getting the sim to at least talk to fs2020. There are lots of issues to work out to get it to be close to the capability with x-plane. I’m using the DA40 aircraft and the AP setting such as direct to don’t show up on the FS2020 G1000. It feels like they are fighting each other at the moment. My ideal case is that the ipad (with Bezel) controls the sim AP. Anyway, I appreciate the efforts to get this working smoothly.

Is it not displayed or no data being fed? There is no dataref for the load percentage in either X-Plane or FSX/FS2020. We are using N1 reading in the games to present load percentage. However, when flying an aircraft other than a jet, the N1 will always be 0 in FSX/FS2020. Haven’t got a solution for that yet.

The gauge is being displayed but there is no data being fed, however, % power can be seen on the FS2020 G1000 panel. Hopefully, there can be a solution.

I will work on the load percentage reading for FS2020 very soon. I’m think of a solution which should work. I’ve also updated the bridge for X-Plane so it never uses N1 for load percentage any more but with an calculated and accurate value.

In my case, Load indicator is showing up. But the percentage is fixed at 100% though I changed power lever max or idle. The Load in FS2020 operated properly.

Thanks for the update, you’re app is outstanding and I look forward using it with the new Microsoft sim.

That being said, I would strongly recommend to include navigraph support. It is free for developers and this will give us the ability to have an up to date database in synch with the simulator and other apps such as simbrief and others.

I was comparing the built in nav data (2009) with the Microsoft Flight Sim and I have notice many differences (way points missing airport,…) this was preventing me from having the same flight plan.

    Thanks again!

Thanks for your feedback. We will look into this and try to find a solution. But even for navdata from navigraph, many private airports are not included. I think those missing one are mostly private airports. Anyway, we will think of how to make regular navdata updates.

I agree that you should consider including Navigraph support due to consistency across all platforms like MSFS, Simionic, Simbrief, and the huge list of add-ons that FMS Data can talk to.

    2. Paul

Navigraph sourcing of NAV data would be a great solution. It is sourced from Jeppesen. For me, the value-add is consistent access to the current instrument approaches between the simulator and the Simionic G10000 system. Most private airports do not have published instrument approaches.

Perhaps there is an approach that uses iCloud as the (optional, i.e. if you have a Navigraph subscription) repository for the 28-day updates from Navigraph.

In G1000 system you can choose 8.33 or 25kHz spacing in the setup page in AUX group in the MFD. However, since SimConnect doesn’t support 8.33kHz spacing there is no way to send all the 8.33kHz frequencies to FS2020.

Still completely broken, both with regard to the autopilot modes and settings, and the ATC/radio settings. This is with PFD app v6.0.1 and Bridge v.3.2

The G1000 apps do not accurately reflect the state of the aircraft’s systems or its flight regime, and trying to use the PFD buttons winds up leaving the aircraft in an inconsistent state. So long as the PFD app remains connected, the in-game cockpit does not respond correctly.

The PFD app will not engage NAV mode, and when you use it to engage HDG the in-cockpit annunciator often shows ROL and PIT instead.n (or vice versa) Altitude and heading settings are not properly synchronized between the app and the sim.

Also, there now seem to be lag issues with the PFD — it freezes for almost a second at time and does not keep up with the simulation.

These apps are nowhere near compatible yet. I hope they’re fixed but for the time being they remain mostly unusable.

We will do more tests with FS2020. Which plane are you flying? The autopilot should work fine with at least the C172 or similar small planes. For the radios, SimConnect doesn’t support 8.33kHz spacing frequencies, so there is no way to make it fully work. But as long you tune the radio frequencies from the PFD app and use only frequencies with 25kHz spacing, it should work fine. Flight director modes or autopilot status are not meant to be synchronized with FS2020. For our apps are designed to work as an instrument on a plane, not a part of any other G1000 softwares. For the issue of being lag, please also take a look at your network status. poor wifi signal or heavy network load will affect the fluency of the communication between the PC and iPad significantly. Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks for the response! I should say I knew the apps were not yet being sold as compatible with MSFS 2020 when I bought them, and understand they have wider applications.

I’ve spent the most time and experienced the most issues in the Cessna 208. I do think the 172 may be working a little better. I’ve had mixed results with the DA-62. I’m happy to provide whatever screen captures or video and etc would be helpful, I’m sure others would too.

As far as the radio goes, I don’t think it’s the spacing that issue I’m having, it’s that while the PFD app is connected any frequency changes made via the in-cockpit UI are instantly reverted. Which makes it impossible to talk to ATC; when using the numbered dialog boxes via the ATC menu the built in switches between ground, tower, approach, etc don’t stick. I also still sometimes get the issue of communications being cut off and repeated while the app is connected. I’m guessing this is due to the frequency tug of war between the frequency set in the app and the in-game setting, upon an automatic frequency change via the ATC dialogs.

I’d have to look to remind myself, but I think there’s a similar issue with AP altitude and heading settings made via the in game panel not sticking when the app is connected.

So far as the AP goes, maybe I’m misunderstanding what I should be doing in the app versus in the sim, and what state is shared between them. But currently, the effect is that the in-game cockpit doesn’t work correctly while the apps are connected and when conflicts between AP settings in the PFD app and the in-game panel occur — which seems to me are unavoidable if their state doesn’t sync — it can result in departure from controlled flight both with the AP engaged, or upon disengaging it. If the flight directors don’t match, doesn’t that mean the G1000 app and the G1000 in the sim disagree about what the aircraft should do?

It does feel like a tug of war between the two interfaces acting on the same aircraft systems.

When I shut down the bridge, and rely on the in-game panel the G1000 systems and radios do what I expect, so I think I do understand how the AP modes are meant to be selected.

But perhaps I don’t understand how the app is meant to be used alongside the game, and what problems I may be causing by performing one flow in the app and another in the game.

The strength of my wi-fi signal is not an issue with the app updating the display, the ipad is sitting about six inches from the access point. Before the most recent updates (to the game and to the app) I was getting a smooth refresh, but now something seems to be causing intermittent freezes.

It could be that the most recent patch (the second one) has made changes to the priority of simconnect polling as a part of the glass cockpit performance adjustments, the only other app I usually have connected to MSFS is OnAir and polling lag wouldn’t be noticeable there. I don’t think network load would be an issue here either, but I’ll have a look, maybe a device is misbehaving.

I’m hopeful it all gets worked out sooner or later, as the apps are great and the bezels are amazing.

Hi there, I just installed the PFD and unfortunately it absolutely broke the ATC in FS2020.

After I turn the Garmin on from a cold start, the ATC gets stuck in an endless loop, for example “Cessna Golf, Cessna Golf, Cessna Golf, Cessna Golf, ad infinitum”. Can’t barely get off the ground like that. Same issues if I start a flight from the runway. I tested every airplane and they are all misbehaving.

The only things working are the speed, altimeter and HDG indicators. Everything else does not work. Autopilot and buttons are non-functional or behaving erratically, actions have no impact on MSFS and vice versa. It also does not load the flight plan from MSFS.

G1000Bridge v3.2, latest app version. When can we expect a fix? Thank you.

      Hi Cesar,

The autopilot should work. Can you elaborate how it doesn’t work? Those settings specifically for G1000 like flight director modes and flight plan are not meant to be synced with MSFS. The apps run independently as an instrument to an aircraft rather than a part of the in-game G1000. For the ATC problem, please let me know which airport and what frequency and I will do a test. The known issue is 8.33kHz spacing frequencies doesn’t work. SimConnect library just doesn’t support 8.33 and it looks like there’s nothing I can do unless FS2020 team publish some updates in the SDK for it. FS2020 is a great flight simulator with a lot fun. We are working hard to get it support as much as possible. But it seems that there are still a lot for the SDK that FS2020 team should add/improve. And we are very looking forward to it.

Between the ATC issues (see my example here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0M3mNzuZnI and long story short, ATC becomes unusable, hence them being mad I didn’t have clearance. Comms broke) and the fact the AP doesn’t properly do NAV, this is completely unusable.

Hi booshi, Please make sure you are using the bridge v3.2 which is the latest version and supposed to solve the ATC looping problem. And, our G1000 apps aren’t meant to be a part of any built-in G1000 in any desktop flight simulators so those flight director modes and flight plans are not meant to be synced. It just work independently. For other details please refer to my other reply here to César.

I can not be happier with SIMIONIC, especially now that with Bridge 3.2 is generally working fine with MSFS 2020. So I have 1 bezel connected to my MFD and I use two iPads, one PFD and one MFD. I connect that with MSFS and use MSFS only as a “platform” or just for the scenery and weather, the rest I do it all with SIMIONIC and works prefect. I have made flights in C172, C208 and King Air 350i and works like a charm, and autopilot is working fine as well… Thanks SIMIONIC, thanks a lot… this is literally a “game changer” for me. I appreciate your work.
But again, just dont expect to see anything on MSFS itself, everything you need is on the iPads.

    Hello all,
I’m running the 2nd FS20 patch with the v3.2 bridge and the just bought latest PFD app (I bought MFD too for second iPad but not trying that yet). All on same WiFi with good signals. My problem is the app is static – it never changes in response to FS20 data. Flying C172S with or without FS20 autopilot engaged, always the same. ATC off now (tried on too). The bridge recognizes connection to “FSX” but it keeps saying “reconnecting” while the app flashes the PC’s IP address. For background, I never had actual FSX so when I first tried to install the bridge it failed, so I installed second item on your download page which mentioned this (SimConnect?). After that the bridge installed and ran OK. I have rebooted PC (many times as Win 10 2004 update installed last night). Am I missing something needed to start the PFD app running to accept bridge data?

This might not be the right place to ask, but I have a question about running two PFD’s and one MFD. I know this is not the correct implementation for the G1000, but curious if its possible anyway. I have bought a second Honeycomb Alpha yoke and I’m simming with my kids as co-pilot. Because of spacing and the way things are arranged, I wanted to ad a third ipad as a second PFD for the co-pilot (similar to the Pro Line Fusion design on the King Air 350i). This will be help the co-pilot manage/see things better. I know the app is not designed to connect to a second PFD, so my question is… can a second instance of the bridge be launched on a different TCP port? Currently it seems the bridge is hard fixed to port 10048 and can’t be changed. Thanks.

Hi Andy, it should still be a connectivity problem. If it’s not the firewall it may something on the iPad. Since there is not much info we can take for reference please send us an email to lichenpo@hotmail.com if you need further help.

I saw someone already report about Load percentage issue. In my case, Load gauge is showing up but it express only 100% though I controlled power lever max or idle. The Load indication in FS2020 operate properly. Aircraft type in FS2020 is DA40NG and I used customizing only for Load output. Please resolve this problem ASAP. Thank you.

The load % was not showing the correct value at the time it was first introduced in the app. Please download the latest version of the app and bridge set the correct max power for the engine in watts and the load will show correct value in the app.

Hi, I try to make it work with ipda 1 and fs 2020. the G1000Bridge told me that I have a timeout connction. What is strange it’s with my ipd air 2…that works. can you helo ?

iPad 1 is too old to install the latest version of the app because Apple limit the iOS version on it to a very low version. You will need the latest version of the app in order to make it work with the bridge.

    Hey
    1. Regarding VNAV profiles.
Can you add altitude arrest on the app? Say you are flying a STAR and have it loaded and are on profile , and the next leg has I lower min altitude(underlined). When you then scroll your altitude bug down to the new altitude, it SHOULD stop at the min altitude of your current active leg and procedure, emphasizing that this is a minimum altitude. That is how the real G1000 behaves, and although it is not by far a critical function, it should be easy enough to implement in the next update:)

Love the apps and hardware! And having onboard AP and G1000 functionality with the app is the perfect solution. It has left me untouched by MSFS20’s terrible attempt at instruments, AP and IFR!

    2. Also the AP needs a little tuneup, with slightly more aggressive bank and pitch commands(won’t do a simple holding on AP, keeps overshooting, does not fly Rate 1 turns).
The turn anticipation suffers from the problem that it computes turns for a much faster aircraft, ie ends up undershooting the turn for me (from leg to leg and transitions, RNAV approaches. Diamond DA62) It simply tells me to turn too early.
Can you make it process turns the same way the real G1000 does, based on TAS? (As a pilot, we do it quickly in our head: required bank angle=(TAS/10)+7. MAX 25 deegres of bank.)

I only fly small Category A and sometimes B aircraft of course!
Airbus on G1000 and complaining about it? Hahahah get a load of this guy huh

    Best regards!
    Your biggest fan:)

I’m considering buying the Simionic bezels for use with MSFS 2020, but I have two questions:

    1. I understand that the iPads connect to the simulator over a common WiFi connection. My desktop computer doesn’t have a WiFi card. It is plugged into my WiFi router with an ethernet cable. The iPads would be connecting to the same router over WiFi. Since the desktop computer and the iPads would be connected to the same network router, I’m hoping that it would still be possible for the iPads to communicate with MSFS 2020. Would this work?

    2. Based on the discussion above, it sounds like the autopilot is tuned to work with GA aircraft. Has it been tested with a variety of the stock GA aircraft in MSFS 2020? Setting aside the jets and turboprops, which are in a different class of power and performance, how well does it work with relatively powerful piston aircraft like the Bonanza G36, the Baron G58, the Cirrus SR22, etc?

    Reply
    1. Koalar (Post author)

It’s totally ok that the desktop computer connects via a network cable as long as it’s the same router. The autopilot works for most of the GA aircraft. It’s not a big concern whether it’s more powerful or not. The most important factor is whether the plane is too agile that the autopilot cannot hold the attitude. For example, it won’t work with an extra300 because the control of the aircraft is too sensitive.

Ok, thank you! If the autopilot is unique to Simionic and not using the in-plane autopilot in MSFS, does the Simionic app command elevator and aileron inputs while the autopilot is engaged? If so, are there ever any problems related to two controllers trying to access the same control axis (i.e. the Simionic autopilot is trying to pitch up while the yoke is being pushed forward, etc)?

Also, is there any lag in the Simionic autopilot compared to the in-plane autopilot? Is it prone to any of the problems that have plagued the MSFS autopilots (pitch oscillations, roll oscillations, etc)?

        Reply
        1. Koalar (Post author)

Yes, the autopilot controls elevator and ailerons. It actually takes over the control of yoke so there will be no conflicts. And, yes, there will be lag in the autopilot if network condition is not good, and that will affect the precision of the autopilot. It’s all based on network anyway. In normal condition the autopilot will grab the plane pretty firmly. Speaking of MSFS, the problem of the native autopilot is caused by both the autopilot algorithm and the aircraft dynamics. So the aircraft dynamics also affect the efficiency of our autopilot. We’ve tuned the parameters in our program to make our autopilot work well with MSFS. We also disengage the MSFS autopilot by default. So, basically, our autopilot works well with MSFS and is not affected by the problems of the MSFS autopilot.

    Hi Koalar

I am verry happy with your bezel and app in msfs2020. It’s a great solution to have an external G1000 controlling the sim without the AP problems that still excist in msfs. However, I have some wishes. The first one is that it would be nice if the Simionic app would be able to synchronise the selected approaches to the G1000 unit in the simulator. That way we would be able to request IFR from ATC while in flight. Msfs is only providing this ATC option when there’s a flight plan entered in the G1000 in the simulator.

The second wish would even be better. If we would be able to create a flight plan in an external application like Navigraph and load this file in both the simulator and the Simionic app. That way both sim and app would be in sync.

    Regards
    Fred

Apologies for such a basic question, but when you plan a flight in the Simionic PFD and activate it, does MSFS then follow that flight plan? I’m just trying to get my head around where I should be planning my flights and where I should not be! Should I be starting an ’empty’ flight at my departure airport, then manually entering the plan in the Simionic G1000, then taking off? I appreciate these are questions I can probably answer by trying it out, but I only have the ipad with me in this hotel, and not my huge desktop with MSFS instaled! Thanks.

The flight plan and autopilot functionalities of the app are independent from MSFS. They don’t show in MSFS. The autopilot in the app will control the plan in MSFS according to the flight plan that you entered in the app.

Ah, I see, thank you. So I guess that means (for example) if I punch a ‘direct to’ in the app while in flight, it won’t have any effect on the route in MSFS?

Ive been using the G1000 app on my iPad with FS2020. Its pretty good but do see a few issues. Main one is not properly syncing with the G1000 in the SIM. For example the NAV points won’t align. If I preset my destination aiport before loading it’ll all be loaded into the G1000 in the game but the purple line on the app is completely wrong. Also the VREFS seem to be different sometimes

Our G1000 apps are designed to run independently as an instrument to the aircraft in X-Plane or FSX/FS2020/P3D. Only basic parameters which are necessary for the program to run are synced. Those ones like flight plan or autopilot status are G1000 specific and not synced with the game since our G1000 implementation is a different one than the built-in one, and that’s the whole point.

Tick the “AP master switch sync” on the bridge so the AP switch will be synchronized. However, if you are using FS2020 there may be stability problems. So it’s not recommended to do that with FS2020.

I’m seeing an issue with the MFD not being synced to Avionics Bus2 in MSFS, on all aircraft that I have tried (C172, G36, C182, G58). The MFD display stays on all the time, regardless of whether or not Bus 2 is on or off (or any other switch/electrical bus, for that matter).

Communicating with FS2020 by the SimConnect interface, there is only one variable called ‘avionics master switch’ which reflect the status of the AvBus 1 switch. There is no variable that I can find for the AvBus 2 switch. This is a pretty old programming interface inherited from FSX and is the only one we can use. So, for now we cannot do much about it. We appreciate for your understanding on this.

Good info, this definitely helps, now that I understand this. The work around for this issue is to simply make sure to shut of Avionics bus 1 prior to bus 2, as the reverse causes the MFD to stay on. Same for the panel lights. So a proper shut down would involve: panel lights off, Avionics bus 1 off, then bus 2, followed by the batt switch. Thanks for the info, I can now get my G1000 to work predictably.

Awesome software! The only issue I’m having is when it overshoots turns, either on a flight plan or an approach course GPS or ILS. The magenta line is correct but the autopilot flies off course. It works better on major turns when I slow down. I’m a real pilot and fly the G1000 and don’t have the same problem. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks for your feedback. Our apps are designed to adapt slow planes like Cessna 172 in the first place. With faster planes, the autopilot doesn’t grab the plane as good as it does with a Cessna. We will improve it overtime.

New issue related to autopilot. When I engage autopilot the airplane pitches up 45+ degrees and stalls. I have tried to correct with pitch/VS/FLC but nothing works. If I rapidly dercrease trim (20 spins of cessna wheel) it eventually levels but will not hold altitude. This issue occurred after last MSFS update. I have dual PFD/MFD with full bezels and audio bezel.

    Hi there

We have purchased your G1000 rig and am wondering if there will be an update which will allow spawning to waypoints/IAF’s instead of just Airports. This would be to practice Instrument approaches. I have FS-Flight Control and one of the options it allows you to do is to spawn at various locations. However when you do this the G1000 PFD & MFD remain at the Departure aerodrome. Would it be possible to rig the bridge software to allow spawning to work in line with FS2020? It would be a huge help for us and no doubt many of the simmers and flight schools usings your G1000 rig around the world.

Are you using it with FS2020? Just enter the correct max power of the engine in watt. If you don’t know the exact number you can always guess until you get a load% pretty close to what it should. For DA40NG, this value should be 125278.

    Hi,

First of all, thanks for creating this wonderful app. I’m enjoying it so far.

Is there an aircraft reference table in order to provide the accurate customizations for different aircrafts?

I have bought all available in-app purchases for maximum usability in multiple aircrafts. But it would be great if I would be able to correctly optimze the G1000 app for the Diamond DA40 NG the Socata TBM 930.

    Thanks,

Thanks for your support for our products. But we don’t have that table you are expecting. Otherwise we will make them pre-configured aircrafts in the app. You need to find out the numbers you need from POH of the aircrafts. You can also guess and try until it looks pretty close to what it should do if you don’t have exact numbers for the engine gauges.

Since I joined the BETA for the SU10, there seems to be a few bugs in communicating with the app.

The biggest for me is the flight plan created in the game is not interfacing with the app and does not show proper GPS heading. There is also a sync issue with altitude not showing properly and the VS value not showing (though i honestly cannot remember if it ever showed that as i have been using the app for just a week.

Flight plan has never been synced since the apps run self-sustained. But altitude and VS show be showing correctly. Will look into that.

I am unable to link the G530 gps in my aircraft to the pfd app. The autopilot is linked and flies a coupled ILS no problem. Is there no way of flying the aircraft in GPS NAV (GPS FlightPlan in the aircraft G530) with this linked pfd as an external instrument? The database and flightplans in the aircraft G530 are up to date and way easier to load and change. It is a big pity as everything else is working well but this is a huge problem. I am also unable to use the actual aircraft Autopilot in Nav Gps as the pfd app seems to prioritise itself as the only autopilot available. I am ending up flying everything in heading ?!
Hopefully I am doing something wrong?

Our apps are not coupled with any GPS system in the game, either G1000 or GNS530. Flight plan need to be entered in the app and using the autopilot in the app.

Is PDF App capable of flying itself from flight plan and NAV engaged or it always takes input from iPad accelerators

Is engaged HDG flying the plain or just showing the direction like FD does.
